A round vent. A bathroom exhaust fan. A pet door. A panel where a window air conditioner sits.<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\">Here&#8217;s the part most people don&#8217;t know. A hole cannot be cut into toughened glass. Toughening happens last, after the sheet is cut and any holes are drilled, which is why the hole has to be part of the order from the start. Try to drill toughened glass afterwards and it shatters instantly.<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\">So when a pane with a cut-out breaks:<\/p><ul dir=\"ltr\"><li><strong>Tell us about the hole when you call<\/strong>, and measure roughly where it sits<\/li><li><strong>Send a photo showing the fan, vent or pet door<\/strong> in place<\/li><li><strong>Expect a made-to-order pane<\/strong>, since these are never off-the-shelf<\/li><li><strong>Allow a few extra days<\/strong>, because the hole adds a step at the supplier<\/li><\/ul><p dir=\"ltr\">If you&#8217;re thinking about putting a pet door into a glass pane, the same applies. The glass is made with the hole in it, not modified later.<\/p><h3 dir=\"ltr\">Window air conditioners<\/h3><p dir=\"ltr\">These cause two kinds of jobs.<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\">The first is a cracked pane around a unit that&#8217;s still in use. Heat, weight and vibration all work on the glass. We replace the pane and make sure the infill panel around the unit seals properly, so you&#8217;re not cooling the backyard.<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\">The second is after the unit comes out. You&#8217;re left with a gap and a half-height window. Toughened, laminated, patterned, double-glazed and anything with a cut-out is made to order, which runs from a few days up to a week depending on the job.
