Here is what we find on nine callouts out of ten: the door leaf itself is perfectly good. What has given up is the floor spring underneath it, the overhead closer above it, the pivot it swings on or the lock it shuts into. A busy Sydney shopfront door gets pushed open a few hundred times a day, and even good hardware wears out under that. Replacing a whole aluminium or frameless glass door is slow and expensive, because the glass has to be cut and toughened to order. Rebuilding the hardware is usually a same-visit job at a fraction of the cost, and it clears the drag, the slam and the gap at the threshold in one go. We only recommend a new door when the frame is out of square, the leaf has dropped past adjustment or the glass is damaged beyond a re-glaze. Doors that slam, creep shut or hang open have a tired closer behind them. We rebuild or replace overhead closers, concealed arms and floor springs, then set closing speed, latch speed and back check so the door lands softly instead of shaking the glass.

Commercial doors carry rules a house door does not. Glass in an entry door has to be Grade A safety glass under Australian Standard AS 1288, which means toughened or laminated and marked so an inspector can read it. Doors on an accessible path have to open with a light push, so a floor spring wound up too tight can quietly put you offside. Exit doors need to swing in the direction people move when they leave, and where panic hardware is fitted it has to release in one motion, every time, without a key. When we repair a commercial door we set the hardware to those numbers rather than to whatever feels about right on the day. If your door is part of a fire rated set we say so upfront and bring in an accredited fire door technician instead of guessing. Almost always, yes. The door leaf rarely fails. Closers, floor springs, pivots, rollers, seals and locks do, because they take hundreds of cycles a day. We replace the worn part, bring the leaf back to square and reset the closing action. A full door replacement only makes sense when the frame has twisted, the leaf has dropped past adjustment or the glass panel is damaged beyond a re-glaze.
Yes. Commercial roller door repair is regular work for us: jammed curtains, bent guide rails, damaged slats, spring tension that has gone soft, and motor, limit switch or remote faults on powered shutters. If a door is bound up after an impact we make it safe first, then quote the repair properly.

On a hinged door it is usually hinge screws pulling out of the stile. Occasionally the frame has moved with the building. Entry doors take Grade A safety glass under AS 1288, so we measure the panel, order toughened or laminated glass to suit and secure the opening while it is on the way. We take after-hours calls for doors that cannot be locked or secured. The first job is always making the site safe, which might mean a board up, a temporary lock or a mechanical hold so you can close for the night. The permanent repair is booked in as soon as the parts land, often before you open again.
Most closer, pivot, roller, seal and lock repairs are finished inside an hour or two on a single visit. Toughened glass is different, because it has to be cut and heat treated before it leaves the factory, so a glass panel usually takes a few working days. We secure the opening so you keep trading in the meantime.
