Nearly every stiff sliding door in Sydney comes down to the same short list of parts. Rollers wear flat and stop turning. Grit and salt build up in the track until the wheels grind instead of roll. The bottom track itself gets chewed out or bent by a door that has been forced for months. Locks drop out of alignment because the door has sagged a few millimetres on tired wheels.
All four of those are repairs. New tandem rollers, a cleaned or re-capped track, a lock realigned to the keeper, and the door moves properly again for a fraction of what a new unit costs. Where the bottom channel is beyond saving, a sliding door track replacement still keeps your existing frame and glass in place.
Glass is the one part we will not patch. Sliding doors use toughened or laminated safety glass, and once a pane is chipped or cracked it has to be replaced rather than repaired. Flat, seized or collapsed rollers are the number one reason a door drags. We fit new tandem or single nylon rollers to suit your frame, then set the height adjusters so the door hangs square and moves with one hand.
Bent, worn or chewed-out bottom tracks are straightened, re-capped with a stainless insert or fully replaced. The door stops jumping, the wheels stop grinding, and the new rollers you just paid for actually last.
Cracked or shattered panels swapped for new toughened or laminated safety glass, measured on site and made to your exact size. We board up the same day if the opening has been left unsecured.

When rollers stop spinning, the door stops rolling and starts sliding. The full weight of the sash, often forty kilos or more with glass, is then dragged along a soft aluminium channel every time someone opens it. Within a few months that channel is scored, then dished, then split. What began as a twenty-minute roller change turns into a track replacement.
The same logic runs through the rest of the house. Wardrobe sliding doors drop off their guides once the wheels flatten, and shower screen sliding doors start leaking once the rollers sit too low for the seals to meet. Catching the noise early is always the cheaper repair.
Cracked glass is the exception to the wait-and-see approach. Toughened panels hold tension inside them, and a chipped edge or a crack from a hinge hole can let the whole pane go at once, hours or days later, without anyone touching it. If a sliding panel in your home is cracked, keep people and pets clear of it and book the replacement now rather than next month.

Nine times out of ten it is worn rollers, a dirty track, or both. The wheels under the door flatten with age and stop turning, so the sash is being dragged rather than rolled. Grit, sand and pet hair packed into the channel make it worse. Both are straightforward repairs, and the longer a door is forced, the more damage it does to the track it sits in.
Yes, in most cases. Rollers, tracks, locks, handles, guides and flyscreens are all replaceable parts, and swapping them costs far less than a new door and frame. Replacement only makes sense when the frame itself is corroded or twisted out of square. The same is true of built-in units, which is why our wardrobe repair service fixes far more doors than it replaces.
It depends on which part has failed, and you will know the figure before we start. A roller change on a standard aluminium slider sits at the low end. A full bottom track replacement or a new toughened glass panel sits higher because of the materials and the time on site. We quote a fixed price from your photos and description, and that is the price you pay.
No. The sash is lifted out of the frame as one piece, laid down safely, and the rollers are swapped from the underside of the bottom rail. The glass stays in the sash the whole time. On most residential sliders the whole job takes under an hour once the door is out.
No, stop using it and keep people away from it. Sliding doors are glazed with toughened or laminated safety glass. Toughened glass carries tension inside the pane, and once it is chipped or cracked it can break all at once without warning. We replace it with new Grade A safety glass that meets AS 1288, the same standard we work to for all window and door glass replacement.

Timber doors often need the sill rebated or a new track seated before wheels will run true. Mirrored panels are a job of their own, and we cover those under sliding mirror wardrobe doors.
Most repairs are done in a single visit of one to two hours. Roller changes, track cleaning, lock realignment and handle replacement are all same-visit jobs. A glass panel replacement takes longer because the new pane is cut to your measurements first, so we board up the opening on day one and return to glaze once the glass is ready.
