Window Glass Repair Auburn

Amrah Glass & Aluminium is based in neighbouring Berala, a few minutes from Auburn, so a broken or cracked window can usually be made safe within hours and fixed the same day. We repair and re-glaze windows in Auburn houses, units, shops and workshops. When a pane can’t be saved, we replace it with glass that meets AS 1288.

Phone 0468 497 928, or message us a photo of the window and we’ll send a quote back.

Why does a Berala glazier make sense for Auburn?

Our workshop is on Oxford Street in Berala, so we’re closer to most Auburn streets than almost any other glazier. That matters when a window is smashed at 5pm and you don’t want the house open overnight. We can often get there, clear the broken glass and secure the opening the same afternoon. Common pane sizes are cut close by, so they’re fitted quicker too.

From brick cottages to new towers: what we glaze in Auburn

Auburn’s housing covers almost every era, and each one breaks in its own way:

  • Older brick cottages and bungalows with timber or early aluminium frames, where glass is often thin and beading has worn out.
  • 1960s and 1970s walk-up flats with aluminium sliders that rattle, leak and stick.
  • New mid-rise apartments around the station and Northumberland Road, with larger panes and double glazing.
  • Shops and food businesses along Auburn Road and near Auburn Central.
  • Workshops and warehouses in the commercial and industrial pockets of the suburb.

What usually breaks a window in Auburn?

  • Break-ins and vandalism, especially on ground-floor units and rear windows facing lanes
  • Wind and storm damage, including loose objects blown off balconies
  • Kids and cricket balls in backyards and complex courtyards
  • Heat stress cracks on large panes in full afternoon sun
  • Failed seals on double glazing, which leave the glass looking permanently misty
  • Ageing putty, rubbers and beading that let panes shift and eventually crack

Fix the frame or change the pane?

It depends on whether the glass itself is damaged.

When the glass is intact, the window can usually be repaired. We replace worn glazing rubbers, re-bead loose panes, reseal leaks, and adjust or replace rollers and catches on sliding windows. This is often all a noisy or draughty flat window needs.

When the glass is cracked, shattered or fogged, the pane has to be replaced. A crack through window glass can’t be fixed permanently. We measure the frame opening, cut new glass to suit, and fit it into your existing frame whenever the frame is in good condition.

The same applies to doors. For stacker and sliding door glass, we check the rollers and track at the same time, because a door that drags puts extra strain on the glass.

New apartment with faulty glass? Check this first

If you live in one of Auburn’s newer buildings and a window cracks without an obvious cause, or double glazing fogs within the first couple of years, talk to your strata manager before booking a repair. Recently completed buildings may still be covered by the builder’s statutory warranty, and the owners corporation may be able to have it fixed at the builder’s cost.

For older complexes, window glass in external walls is usually common property in NSW strata schemes. That means the owners corporation normally organises the job. We quote directly to strata managers and arrange access with the occupant.

Glass options for busy streets and ground-floor units

Laminated glass is the one we recommend most for Auburn ground-floor units and street-facing rooms. If someone hits it, it cracks but holds together, so it’s much harder to get through. It also cuts down noise, which helps homes close to the railway line and Parramatta Road.

Toughened glass is used wherever safety glass is required: in doors, beside doors, in bathrooms and in low panes close to the floor. It’s much stronger than plain glass and breaks into small, blunt pieces.

Frosted and patterned glass keeps bathrooms, laundries and front sidelights private.

Double-glazed units are made to order for newer apartments. Only the sealed unit is swapped; the frame stays put.

We’ll check what your window needs on site. Our complete guide to fixing damaged windows has more detail on each glass type.

Shopfront and business windows

For Auburn Road shops, restaurants and workshops, the priority is getting trade back to normal. We can secure a broken shopfront the same day, then fit laminated or toughened glass as soon as it’s cut. Where it suits, we arrange early starts before opening time. Damaged glass doors on shops and offices are handled by the same team, so one call covers the whole frontage.

What sets the price of a window glass job?

  • Pane size and thickness
  • Glass type: plain, toughened, laminated, frosted or double-glazed
  • Frame type and condition
  • Access, such as upper-floor windows or tight spaces
  • Timing, for urgent or after-hours call-outs

You get a fixed price before any work starts. For insured damage, we provide an itemised invoice and a report to support your claim.

How a typical job runs

  1. We confirm the job and give you an arrival time.
  2. We lay down drop sheets and remove the broken glass safely.
  3. We measure the opening and check the frame, rubbers and beads.
  4. We fit and seal the new pane, or secure the opening if the glass is being cut to order.
  5. We vacuum up every fragment and take the old glass away.

Other glass we can fix on the same trip

Frequently Asked Questions

How close are you to Auburn?
Our workshop is in Berala, next to Auburn, so most addresses are only a few minutes’ drive away.

Can you secure a smashed window the same night?
Yes. If the permanent glass isn’t ready, we board up or fit temporary acrylic so the property is closed.

My unit window rattles in the wind. Does it need new glass?
Usually not. Rattling is normally caused by worn rubbers or wedges, which can be replaced without changing the pane.

Who pays to fix a window in a new apartment?
If the building is recently completed, the defect may be covered by the builder’s warranty. Your strata manager can check this before any repair is booked.

What glass is best for a ground-floor unit?
Laminated glass is a strong choice because it holds together when struck and also reduces outside noise.

Do you repair shop windows on Auburn Road?
Yes. We secure shopfronts the same day and fit permanent glass as soon as it’s cut.

Which nearby suburbs do you cover?
Berala, Lidcombe, Regents Park, Granville, South Granville, Silverwater, Newington, Rosehill and the wider Cumberland area.
