Amrah Glass & Aluminium repairs and replaces broken, cracked and fogged window glass throughout Alfords Point, including the large river-view panes, deck sliding doors, balustrades and pool glass that are common in this part of the Sutherland Shire. Most standard repairs are booked for same-day or next-day attendance, and broken windows outside trading hours get a 24/7 emergency board-up so your home is secure that night.

Two things, and both come down to how this suburb was built.
The first is the blocks. Alfords Point sits on the slopes above the Georges River, and a large share of homes here are split-level or two-storey on ground that falls away sharply at the rear. A window that looks like a simple ground-floor job from the street can be four or five metres above ground at the back. That changes how we access it, whether the pane can be fitted from inside, and whether ladders or a platform are needed.
The second is the glass itself. Homes built here through the 1980s to the early 2000s were designed around the view, which means big fixed picture windows, wide sliding doors onto decks, and glass balustrades along those decks. Those panes are larger, heavier and more expensive than a standard bedroom window, and they need two people and the right lifting gear to fit safely.
We quote both of those factors up front rather than discovering them on the day.
A few causes come up repeatedly on Alfords Point jobs.
Thermal stress. West and north-facing picture windows here take hours of direct afternoon sun with very little shading. Glass expands where the sun hits it and stays cooler under the frame edge. If a pane was cut years ago with a small nip or chip along that edge, the stress eventually finds the flaw and the pane cracks on its own, usually in a curved line starting at the perimeter. Homeowners often assume something hit it. Nothing did.
Bushland debris and storms. Properties backing onto the reserves and the Georges River bushland cop falling branches and windblown debris during summer storms. Rear-facing glass takes the worst of it.
Failed double glazing. A lot of the double-glazed units installed here in the 1990s and 2000s are now past their seal life. When the perimeter seal goes, moisture gets between the panes and the unit fogs permanently. That is not a cleaning problem and it cannot be repaired in place, the insulated unit has to be replaced as a whole.
River air on old aluminium. The Georges River is estuarine, so the air here carries some salt. It is milder than open coast, but over twenty or thirty years it still pits aluminium frames and seizes hardware, which is often the real reason a window has stopped operating.
Everyday knocks. Cricket balls, deck furniture blown over, dogs against sliding doors, and kids’ bikes.
Yes, and this is where a like-for-like replacement can quietly put you offside with the standards.
Parts of Alfords Point sit on bushfire prone land because of the bushland and river corridor. Depending on your property’s BAL rating under AS 3959, certain openings need toughened glass, and in higher ratings the glazing specification tightens further. If your home has a bushfire rating, we confirm the required spec before cutting rather than matching whatever happened to be in the frame.
Pool fence glass falls under AS 1926.1 and must be toughened, correctly clamped and correctly spaced. Balustrade glass falls under AS 1288 and, above certain drop heights, has to be toughened laminated rather than plain toughened. If you have a cracked balustrade panel on a raised deck, that distinction matters, and we will tell you which one your situation calls for.
All ordinary window glass we install meets AS 1288 and AS/NZS 2208, which is mandatory in doors, wet areas and any pane sitting low to the floor.
Glass only is the right answer in most cases. If the frame is still square and the hardware runs, replacing the pane is faster and much cheaper than a new window.
A full window replacement becomes worthwhile when the timber sill has rotted, the aluminium has corroded through, the frame has dropped out of square on a settled block, or you have decided to upgrade to double glazing to control heat in a west-facing living room. On a large view window, that upgrade often pays for itself in comfort alone.
We give you the honest comparison and let you choose. We do not quote a full window to fix a cracked pane.
Price depends on glass type, pane size, frame material and access. A standard clear pane at ground level is the cheapest job. Oversized picture windows, toughened and laminated glass, double-glazed units, balustrade panels and anything requiring elevated access on a sloping block all cost more.
Send measurements or photos through on WhatsApp and we will quote from those. The figure we give you is the figure you pay, with no call-out charge appearing at the end.
We regularly work across the western Shire including Menai, Illawong, Bangor, Barden Ridge, Sandy Point, Bonnet Bay, Lugarno and Padstow Heights, along with the southern suburbs around Yarrawarrah. Our glass is cut at our workshop on Oxford Street, and we cover glazing work right across the Sydney metro area.
We also handle bathroom and wall mirror replacement if the same visit involves mirrors, and breakages after hours are covered by our after-hours response service.
Do you offer emergency window glass repair in Alfords Point?
Yes, 24/7. If the correct pane cannot be cut immediately, we secure the opening the same day and return to install the permanent glass.
Can you replace a large river-view picture window?
Yes. Oversized panes are a regular part of the work here. We measure first, confirm the glass type and thickness, and bring the crew and lifting equipment needed to fit it safely.
My double-glazed windows have gone cloudy. Can that be cleaned?
No. Cloudiness means the perimeter seal has failed and moisture is trapped inside the unit. The insulated glass unit needs replacing.
Can you replace a cracked glass pool fence panel?
Yes. Pool fence glass must be toughened and installed to AS 1926.1 spacing and clamping requirements. We replace panels to that standard.
What if my window is high up at the back of a sloping block?
That is common in Alfords Point. We assess access when quoting and fit from inside where possible, or bring the right equipment where it is not.
How long does a standard repair take on site?
Most single panes take 30 to 60 minutes once cut. Large panels, balustrades and double-glazed units take longer.
