St Marys South covers the streets running south of the Great Western Highway and the railway, around St Marys South Public School and out toward the Colyton and Oxley Park boundaries. The homes here are mostly post-war and mid-century cottages on generous blocks, many extended or renovated at least once, with newer granny flats tucked behind them.
Amrah Glass & Aluminium re-glazes and repairs windows throughout the area. Glass is fitted to AS 1288, the price is agreed before we start, and any broken opening is secured the same day.

Homes of this age lose more air around the window than through it, and people often blame the glass.
Sliding aluminium windows have a strip of fuzzy weather seal running along the sash edges, called wool pile. It’s what stops air whistling through the gap between the sliding sash and the frame. After twenty or thirty years that pile flattens, goes brittle and falls out in pieces, leaving a clear channel for wind, dust and noise.
You can check yours in a minute. Slide the sash open and look along the edge that meets the frame. If the fuzzy strip is patchy, compressed flat or missing altogether, that’s your draught. Replacing the pile is inexpensive and takes very little time, and the difference on a windy night is obvious.
The other usual suspect is the perimeter seal where the glass meets the frame. On timber windows that’s putty, and on aluminium it’s a rubber or a bead. Both perish. Neither means the glass is faulty.
Screens come off with the glass on most jobs, so it’s worth knowing the difference before replacing them.
One thing worth repeating: none of these stops a child falling. Screens keep insects out, not people in. If you have small children upstairs, a window restrictor is what you need.
Plenty of houses here have two identical windows side by side, or a pane split down the middle by a mullion. Break one and the new glass won’t always look identical to its neighbour.
Older glass picks up a faint colour cast, surface wear and sometimes light etching from years of weather and cleaning. Set fresh glass next to it in direct light and the difference can show, particularly with tinted, obscure or thicker glass.
What we do about it: if the pair sits on a prominent front elevation and the mismatch would bother you, replacing both is worth considering. If the windows are on a side wall or rarely seen together, one pane is fine. We give you an honest read on site rather than pushing the bigger job.
Hail and storm damage through summer. Break-in damage at rear windows. Balls from backyards and the school ovals. Heat cracks on west-facing panes. Fogged double glazing in newer extensions. We also get a good share of work from landlords and agents with rentals around the area, where photos and an itemised invoice go straight through to the office.
If something has just broken, the safe way to clear broken glass is worth reading first. Properties in the same streets north of the highway get the same service.
Glass has to be replaced when it’s cracked, shattered, deeply scratched or fogged between double-glazed layers. A crack can’t be repaired and will keep travelling with heat and wind.
No new glass is needed when the pane is sound and the problem is a draught, a rattle, a leak, a sticking sash or a lock that won’t engage. That’s weather seal, track and hardware work.
Where the pane sits changes what goes back in. Doors, windows beside doors, bathrooms and glass close to floor level all require Grade A safety glass, regardless of what was there before. Our page on which glass is required where covers the rules.
Standard clear glass is usually fitted same day or next morning. Toughened, laminated and obscure glass is cut to order, generally one to three business days, with a board-up in the meantime.
Cost depends on pane size and thickness, glass type, frame condition, whether screens need removing, and how urgently you need it. You get a fixed figure up front and an itemised invoice for insurance claims.
To quote without attending, send a wide photo of the window, a close-up of the damage, rough measurements and the room it’s in. Our vans run through this corridor daily, taking in Minchinbury and out to South Penrith, so response times are short.

My window is draughty but the glass is fine. What is wrong?
Usually the wool pile weather seal on the sliding sash has worn away. Replacing it is quick and inexpensive.
Can you replace flyscreen mesh at the same time as the glass?
Yes. Since screens come off for glass access anyway, re-meshing at the same visit saves a second call-out.
Will pet mesh stop my dog pushing through the screen?
It’s far tougher than standard mesh and handles normal pushing and scratching. It isn’t a security product.
Will new glass match the window next to it?
Usually closely, though older glass weathers. On prominent front windows some owners replace both panes for an exact match.
Does a bathroom window need special glass?
Yes. Bathrooms, doors, panes beside doors and glass near floor level need Grade A safety glass.
Can my real estate agent book the repair?
Yes. Agents book us directly and we send photos and an itemised invoice for the owner’s records.
