Here is something many Sydney homeowners do not know: when window glass breaks, the frame almost always survives. Timber and aluminium frames are built to outlast many panes of glass. So instead of paying for a whole new window, you pay for one new pane, cut to size and fitted into the frame you already have. That is the difference between a small repair bill and a renovation bill.
Our glaziers work on every common Sydney window: double-hung timber sashes held with putty or timber beads, aluminium sliders and awnings held with rubber gaskets, louvres, casements and fixed panes. We measure the opening, cut the glass, bed it in properly and leave the frame sealed against wind and rain. One visit, done.

Ordinary float glass breaks into long, razor-sharp shards. That is why Australian Standard AS 1288 says certain windows must use Grade A safety glass instead: anything low to the floor, beside a door, in a bathroom, or anywhere a person could fall against it. Older Sydney homes are full of windows that were glazed before these rules existed.
So when we replace a pane, we do not just copy what was there. We check what the standard asks for today. Laminated glass holds together when it breaks, which makes it the usual choice near doors and walkways. Toughened glass crumbles into small blunt pieces and suits high-impact spots. Plain float glass still has its place higher up. You get the reasoning with the quote, in plain words, before anything is ordered.

Window Glass Repair In Sydney, Answered Straight
The glass itself has to be replaced — a crack in glass cannot be healed, and tape or resin only hides it while it keeps spreading. The good news is that only the pane needs replacing, not the window. Your existing timber or aluminium frame stays, we cut new glass to the exact opening, and the window looks and works as it did before.
Keep children and pets away from the area first. Leave large hanging shards where they are, because pulling them out can bring more glass down. If weather or security is a worry, tape thick cardboard or plastic sheeting over the opening from the inside. Then send us a photo. We will make the window safe and re-glaze it as quickly as we can.
Whatever Australian Standard AS 1288 requires for that opening. Windows near doors, close to the floor or in wet areas need Grade A safety glass — usually laminated, which holds together when broken, or toughened, which crumbles into small blunt pieces. Higher windows can take ordinary float glass. We explain the choice with the quote, so you know why each pane costs what it costs.
Yes, and it is some of our favourite work. Older Sydney sashes hold their glass with putty or slim timber beads. We soften and remove the old putty carefully, lift the pane out, and bed the new glass in fresh glazing putty or matching beads. The frame keeps its age and character; only the glass is new.
The fog means the seal inside the double-glazed unit has failed and moisture has crept between the two panes. Cleaning cannot reach it. The fix is to replace the sealed unit itself — the two panes and their spacer — while your frame stays in place. Once the new unit is in, the clear view and the insulation both come back.
All the time. Aluminium sliders hold their glass with rubber gaskets and wedge seals rather than putty. We remove the sash, take out the broken pane, fit new glass with fresh rubbers and put the sash back on its rollers. If the seals have gone hard with age, we replace those too, so the window slides and locks properly again.
A standard pane in a timber or aluminium frame usually takes under an hour once we are on site. Safety glass, unusual sizes and double-glazed units sometimes need to be cut or made up first, which can add a day or two before fitting. Either way, you get a clear date when you book, and a broken window is always made safe in the meantime.
