Amrah Glass & Aluminium repairs and replaces broken, cracked and failed window glass throughout Arncliffe, including the acoustic glazing fitted to homes under the airport flight path. Standard panes are usually booked same-day or next-day, and after-hours breakages get a board-up the same night.

Why does Arncliffe need a different approach to glass?

Because of what sits above and around it.

Arncliffe lies directly under the main north-south approach to Sydney Airport. Add the M5 East, Marsh Street and the Princes Highway on three sides, plus the Illawarra line running through the middle, and this is one of the noisiest residential pockets in Sydney. Glass here is not just about keeping weather out. For a lot of households it is the main thing standing between them and the noise.

That is why we quote differently in Arncliffe. On most jobs elsewhere, a cracked pane gets a like-for-like replacement and that is the end of it. Here we ask what the window is doing for you acoustically before we cut anything, because putting plain 4mm float back into a frame that previously held acoustic glass is a downgrade you will notice the first night. All our panes are cut at the Oxford Street yard we work out of, so specifying the right glass up front costs nothing extra in time.

What about the old airport noise insulation windows?

This is the single most common job we see in Arncliffe, and a lot of homeowners do not know what they have.

Through the 1990s and early 2000s, the federal Sydney Airport noise insulation programme fitted acoustic glazing to eligible homes across the flight path suburbs, Arncliffe included. Those windows were good work at the time. They are also now around twenty five to thirty years old.

What fails first is the seal, not the glass. Once the perimeter seal on a sealed acoustic or double-glazed unit breaks down, moisture gets between the panes and the unit fogs permanently. That fogging cannot be cleaned or repaired in place. It also means the acoustic performance you were given has quietly dropped away.

The second thing that fails is the hardware. Acoustic units are heavier than standard glass, and after three decades the hinges, stays and sash balances carrying that weight give out.

We replace failed units with new acoustic laminated or double-glazed glass to match or exceed what was there. If you are unsure what is in your frames, send us a photo of the edge of the pane and the frame profile and we can usually tell you. Homes over in the Wolli Creek area sit in the same flight corridor and have the same issue coming due.

Which glass actually reduces noise?

Worth being straight with you here, because there is a lot of marketing nonsense in this space.

Laminated acoustic glass is the best value upgrade for most Arncliffe homes. The interlayer between the two sheets absorbs sound energy rather than passing it through. It fits into most existing frames, and the difference in a bedroom facing the flight path is genuinely noticeable.

Double glazing performs better again, particularly against the low-frequency rumble from aircraft and the M5. It costs more and the frame has to accept a thicker unit, so it is not always a straight swap.

Thicker single glazing, say 6mm instead of 4mm, gives a small improvement and nothing more. If someone tells you it will fix aircraft noise, they are overselling it.

What glass cannot fix is noise coming through gaps, roof cavities and door frames. If your window seals are shot, new glass alone will disappoint you. We will tell you that rather than take the job and leave you unhappy.

What else do we repair around Arncliffe?

The housing here is a genuine mix, and each type brings its own work.

Interwar and post-war brick homes on the older streets, with timber sash windows, some original leadlight in front rooms, and steel-framed windows in a few. Timber sashes need re-puttying and cord replacement rather than a rubber seal.

Newer apartments and townhouses, particularly toward the Wolli Creek end. Balcony sliders, balustrade panels, common area glazing and entry door glass. We invoice strata managers and agents directly with before and after photos for the file.

Post-war and renovated homes with aluminium sliding, awning and louvre windows, and rear sliding doors with worn tracks and rollers. The same window profiles turn up across nearby Banksia, so we usually carry the right hardware.

Bathrooms and wet areas, where we also handle mirror and splashback replacement when it makes sense to do both in one visit.

Do you handle commercial and industrial premises?

Yes. Arncliffe has substantial commercial and light industrial frontage along Marsh Street, Bonar Street and the Princes Highway, and we cover shopfront glass, office partitions, warehouse windows and roller door vision panels.

For businesses, a broken shopfront is a trading problem before it is a glass problem. We board up the same day so you can open, then fit the permanent pane once it is cut. That approach runs across our commercial work through the Kogarah district as well.

Overnight and weekend breakages are covered by our round-the-clock breakage response.

Should you repair the glass or replace the window?

Glass only, in most situations. If the frame is straight and the sash still runs, replacing the pane is cheaper and faster.

Full window replacement is worth considering when a timber sill has rotted, a steel frame has rusted through, or the frame simply cannot take the thickness of the acoustic unit you actually need. That last one comes up in Arncliffe more than elsewhere. If noise is your main concern and your frames are thirty years old, replacing the window rather than just the glass is sometimes the honest answer, and we will say so.

All glass is selected and installed to AS 1288 and AS/NZS 2208, which matters most in doors, wet areas and panes close to floor level.

Pricing

Cost depends on glass type, pane size, frame material and access. Standard clear panes at ground level are the cheapest. Acoustic laminated glass, double-glazed units, oversized sliders, balustrades and upper-level access all cost more.

Send photos and rough measurements on WhatsApp and we will quote from those. The number we give you is the number you pay. If your property sits outside this pocket, you can see how our coverage works across the wider metro area.

Frequently asked questions

My windows have gone cloudy between the panes. Can they be cleaned?
No. Cloudiness means the sealed unit has failed and moisture is trapped inside. The unit needs replacing, not cleaning.

Were my windows part of the airport noise insulation programme?
Possibly, if your home was eligible and the work was done in the 1990s or 2000s. Send us a photo of the pane edge and frame and we can usually identify it.

Will new glass stop aircraft noise completely?
No, and be wary of anyone who says it will. Acoustic laminated or double glazing reduces it substantially, particularly in bedrooms, but no window eliminates it.

Can you match the existing glass so my windows look consistent?
Yes. We match thickness, tint and finish so a single replaced pane does not stand out from the rest.

Do you work with strata buildings in Arncliffe?
Yes. Written quotes for committee approval, photographic records, and invoicing direct to the strata manager or agent.

How fast can you attend an emergency?
Same day for board-up, seven days a week.
