Amrah Glass & Aluminium repairs and replaces window glass across Kingswood, covering the homes, student rentals, investment properties and commercial premises around the university and hospital precinct. Most standard panes are fitted same-day or next-day, and broken windows after hours get a board-up the same night.

Penrith is the hottest part of Sydney by a wide margin. In January 2020 the area recorded 48.9 degrees, which at the time made it the hottest place on earth that day. Days above 40 are a normal part of every summer here, not an event.
That does two things to your windows, and most people only know about one of them.
It cracks glass with no impact at all. When the sun strikes a pane, the exposed area expands while the edge tucked under the frame stays cooler and does not. If that hidden edge has a small nip or chip from the original cut, the stress eventually finds that flaw and the pane cracks on its own, usually in a curved line running in from the perimeter. People ring us certain that something hit the window. Nothing did. We see more of these in Kingswood than almost anywhere else we work, and the same pattern runs right through the Mount Druitt corridor.
It makes rooms genuinely unlivable. A west-facing bedroom with plain 4mm float glass in a Kingswood summer is not a comfort issue, it is a room nobody can sleep in. The air conditioner runs all day and the power bill follows.
If you can only afford to change some windows, this is the order we would do it in.
West and north-facing rooms first. These take the afternoon load. Everything else is secondary.
Low-E glass is the best value upgrade for most Kingswood homes. It carries a microscopically thin coating that reflects heat while still letting light through, so the room stays brighter than it would with heavy tint. It fits standard frames and it works on the same day it goes in.
Tinted glass costs less and cuts both heat and glare, at the price of a darker room. Good for bedrooms, less ideal for a living area you want bright.
Double glazing gives the strongest result and also handles Great Western Highway noise at the same time. It costs more and the frame has to accept a thicker unit, so it is not always a straight swap on an older home.
What does not work is simply going from 4mm to 6mm clear glass. It is thicker, not cooler. If someone tells you that will fix your west-facing bedroom, they are selling rather than advising.
One thing worth saying plainly. Better glass reduces heat coming in through the window. It does not fix a poorly insulated roof, gaps around the frame, or a dark roof with no sarking. If those are your bigger problem, new glass will disappoint you, and we would rather tell you that before you spend the money.
Kingswood has one of the higher concentrations of rental housing in western Sydney, driven by the university campus, TAFE and Nepean Hospital.
For landlords and agents, that means glass damage tends to surface at the worst moment, during an exit inspection with a new tenancy starting in a few days. A broken window will hold up a lease start faster than almost anything else in a property.
We work the way agents need. Itemised written quotes suitable for approval or bond claims, before and after photographs for the file, invoicing direct to the agency rather than chasing a departing tenant, and attendance at short notice between tenancies.
For tenants, report damage to your agent in writing with photos and let them authorise the work. If the property is not secure right now, ring us anyway. We will make it safe tonight and deal with the paperwork afterwards, because nobody should be sitting in a house with an open hole in the wall waiting for an approval email. That is what our round-the-clock breakage callout is there for.
Every pane is cut at the Oxford Street yard where we hold our stock before we set out, so a standard job stays a one-visit job rather than a measure-now-return-later exercise.
Kingswood sits between the Great Western Highway and the Main Western railway line, and properties close to either get constant noise, including overnight freight movements.
Laminated glass is the practical fix. The interlayer between the two sheets absorbs sound energy instead of transmitting it, and in a bedroom facing the highway the difference is clearly noticeable. Double glazing performs better again, particularly against low-frequency rumble from trucks and trains.
This matters more than usual in Kingswood because of who lives here. Hospital shift workers sleeping during the day get the full daytime traffic load, and no amount of blockout curtain fixes a noise problem. Glass does.
We cover the commercial strip along the Great Western Highway, medical suites and consulting rooms around the hospital, and offices and training facilities in the area.
Medical and allied health premises have particular requirements. Privacy glazing for consulting rooms, obscure and frosted glass to appropriate levels, safety glass in doors and partitions to AS 1288, and work scheduled outside patient hours so appointments are not disrupted. We attend after hours for that reason as a matter of course, the same way we do for clients through the Marsden Park commercial area.
Glass only, in most cases. If the frame is square and the sash still moves, replacing the pane is considerably cheaper and quicker.
Full window replacement makes sense when a timber sill has rotted, a steel frame has rusted through, an aluminium sash has corroded past running, or the existing frame cannot take the thickness of the double-glazed unit you actually need for heat and noise. That last point comes up here more than in most suburbs.
Everything we install meets AS 1288 and AS/NZS 2208. Worth checking in any home built before the mid-1980s, because plain glass in old shower screens and beside doors was normal then and is not acceptable now. It turns up constantly in original homes through the older streets around Willmot.
Glass type, pane size, frame material and access set the price.
The cheapest job is a standard clear pane in a ground-floor aluminium window. Costs rise with toughened and laminated glass, low-E and double-glazed units, oversized panels, and anything needing ladder access.
Send photos and rough measurements on WhatsApp and we will give you a fixed figure. That figure is what you pay, with no call-out charge appearing at the end. If your property sits outside this area, the full list of suburbs we reach will tell you whether we come to you.
My window cracked and nothing hit it. How is that possible?
Thermal stress, which is very common in Kingswood because of the heat. The sunlit part of the pane expands while the shaded edge stays cool, and a small flaw in that edge gives way.
What glass will keep my west-facing bedroom cooler?
Low-E glass is the best all-round choice. Tinted costs less but darkens the room. Double glazing performs best and costs most.
Will thicker glass reduce the heat?
No. Thickness affects strength, not heat transfer. You need a coating, a tint or a double-glazed unit.
I am renting. Who organises the repair?
Report it to your agent in writing with photos and they authorise the work. If the property is not secure, call us and we will make it safe regardless.
Do you work with real estate agents on tenancy turnarounds?
Yes. Written quotes, photo records, direct invoicing and short-notice attendance between leases.
Can new glass cut the highway and train noise?
Laminated glass makes a clear difference, and double glazing more again. Neither eliminates noise entirely, and we will be straight with you about what to expect.
How quickly can you attend?
Most standard repairs are same-day or next-day. Emergency board-up is same day, seven days a week.
